Electric City is the new album from Sarantis out May 27th via Senseless Records. It takes it’s name from an imagined urban landscape caught somewhere between London and the dystopian sprawl imagined by John Carpenter, Warriors and other classic 80s sci-fi. The music takes audible cues from the soundtracks to those films; bold, raw synths and big drums reverberate but also a melting pot of musical styles ranging from motor city techno and electro funk through to cutting edge grime, bashment and footwork.
Vocal tracks come from Parly B (Mungo’s Hifi), South London’s rising grime star M.I.K. & Dialect, a renowned freestyle MC and regular guest on Westwood and 1Xtra.
Building on previous releases for Senseless, Black Acre and Chrissy Murderbot’s Loose Squares, on this LP Sarantis expands his sonic palette and allows all the inspiration and influence collected in the past half decade to breathe and expand. Starting out from his soundsystem roots in Leeds, UK, Sarantis has worked his way in to the record boxes of people like Skream, Brenmar, DMZ & Mary Anne Hobbs with a catalogue spanning six years and work with vocalists like Warrior Queen and Iration Steppas.

We’re very excited to announce the Sarantis debut LP will be dropping in May, more info and audio coming very soon. Sarantis is playing with Leeds badboy MC Dialect on mic duties. Then we’ve linked up with extended family Cardopusher, known for his recent work on Loose Squares, DVA and his own Classic Works amongst many other labels, he’s paying us an exclusive visit from Barcelona. Support from Deville and the usual WBG gang. This is going to be lively.
Big line up in East London this weekend for the launch of Venice Calypso’s debut solo EP on Senseless. Check out his killer tracks on the first Synesthesia from last year HERE. We’ve teamed up with Destroy Culture (http://www.destroyculture.biz/) and fashion website Flash Fads (http://www.flashfads.com/) to bring a full night of cutting edge music and fashion to a basement club in East London. Give the Olympics a rest and get involved.

Next up in the Senseless podcast Sarantis has gone IN on this hour and a half mix of juke, soca, grime, bashment and all kinds of other shit mega mix. No track list because it’s packed full of unreleased material from Sarantis, Lenkemz Parly B and other Senseless family. Hype!
Some DIY iPhone footage of the Senseless showcase ft Murlo, Lenkemz, Sarantis, Deville, Mak & Pasteman, MC Ishu. Thx to Uppercut and The Meteor stage for having us down. Amazing times on an amazing stage, we brought the carnival flex to Saturday afternoon. Boom!
The time has come!
Senseless touches down on the mighty Meteor stage at Glade this weekend. The line up for just this one stage is quite simply insane with crews like Earnest Endeavours, Robox Neotech and our boys Donky Pitch joining us. Huge shouts to the Uppercut crew for creating the stage, the DJ Box is a UFO with a dancefloor packed with underfloor bass.
We’re bringing the full crew for the showcase repping the whole spectrum of Senseless sounds from bashment, dub and reggae to grime, house, electro and everything in between.
Better late than never we’re launching our podcast series where we get artists, friends and fam to boil up some straight heat. First up one of our favourite artists and a long time Senseless collaborator, Murlo. A big bashy blend of dancehall and funky with plenty of his own edits and productions.

18:15-20:15 Senseless Allstars ft Deville, Sarantis, Sasquatch & MC Ishu

A huge flaming ball of juke tempo energy from Sarantis to warm up even the chilliest of December nights. Features new remixes of Rossi B & Luca and space, ladies both forthcoming on Senseless in 2012. Plus a whole load Sarantis dubs and other good stuff. Work it.
The results are in and the rave was immense in every way. Plans are already being made for the next one. Relive the madness in this gallery @Bartek Szadura for the camera work:
Mash it up in the technicolour international bass den downstairs, with a cross section of the finest selectors the UK and Americas have to offer, tempted into the chaos by Big Gwan himself… Ascend from the depths of the den and take of the devilish pleasures on offer inside the rock n roll disco, where heavy blues men drink with sultans of surf, and circus cabaret is performed for drunk punks and lost children of the rave.. Feed your senses and groom your souls with genuinely cheap liquor and all the freedom of the speakeasy…Come shake off your shackles and grind down with Big Gwan!
10 pounds entry all night, includes free drink!
“Dope!” – Brenmar
“Phenomenal! Going to be playing a lot” – Chrissy Murderbot

A string of classic grime tracks from Sarantis originally launched the label so it’s fitting that the original Senseless artist returns to help celebrate our 5th birthday. The Greenhouse EP takes the signature Sarantis blend of raw grime and basement and hotwires it to a 160bpm juke tempo to create a fresh hybrid that could only come from one artist.
‘Militant’ jacks up grime strings and a wall of bass alongside the firing bashment delivery of rising star Parly B with a prophetic message given the recent social unrest. Title track Greenhouse FX samples horns hip hop style before splicing them in to a million pieces and reassembling them on tough percussion and elastic synths. More Dead Than Alive is straight grime with menacing, cinematic strings. Distorted Reality references sci-fi, 8-bit and classic Detroit to cook up one of the EP highlights. Scanner Riddim completes the package, an instrumental of militant crying out to be re-voiced by any MCs that can handle it.
